Calgary Cloth Diaper Depot Giveaway

Win Your Choice of Insert: AppleCheeks, Hemp Babies, FLIP

(the amazing owner of Calgary Cloth Diaper Depot provided me these 3 inserts for the purposes of this review,  however all thoughts and opinions provided are my own)

Are you having a hard time figuring out what kinds of inserts to use in your pocket cloth diapers or in your covers? Calgary Cloth Diaper Depot & I want to help you figure it out! The wonderful Miranda sent me three VERY different inserts to try out and share my thoughts! 1. Flip Night Time Organic Cotton Insert 2. Hemp Babies Little Weeds Insert 3. AppleCheeks Bamboo/Organic Cotten Fleece
I tested each of the three inserts in the following three different sizes of pocket cloth diapers:
AppleCheeks Size Two (aprox. 7.3" wide), FuzziBunz One Size (aprox. 5.3" wide), Sunbaby One Size (aprox. 5.7" wide)

Hemp Babies Little Weeds Insert

- Made with two layers hemp fleece composed of 55% Hemp, 45% Certified organic cotton, serged with natural thread and seamed to ease folding. Available in both a small and a large size, were specifically designed to fit in a small or medium pocket diaper. (made by Cotton Babies) (bifolded = 4 layers)
- Measured aprox. 12.3" in width before washing, Measured aprox. 10.0" in width after washing/prepping
- In an 'off the bum' test of how much it could hold, it held about 1/2 cup of water after around 3 washes, and after it was fully prepped about 2/3 cup of water
Purchase at CCDD for $9.95 CAD each
The Hemp Babies insert was the "smallest" in size of all three inserts, but I if I had to pick, I really loved this one best! It was super trim, the easiest to fold (even according to DH), and held its own when it came to my heavy wetter! It did not fit the best into the wide AppleCheeks diaper bifolded, but it was a perfect fit in both my Fuzzibunz and my Sunbaby. I do have a soft spot for hemp inserts - they just seem to work better for my little one.

AppleCheeks Bamboo/Organic Cotten Fleece Insert

- Made with three layers of ultra-soft 70% rayon from bamboo/30% organic cotton fleece (trifolded = 9 layers)
- Measured aprox. 16.5" in length before washing, Measured aprox. 14.9" in length after washing/prepping
- In an 'off the bum' test of how much it could hold, it held about 1/4 cup of water after around 3 washes, and after it was fully prepped it was ever so close to 3/4 cup of water
Purchase at CCDD for $10.95 CAD each
The AppleCheeks insert was a very close second place to the Hemp Babies in my mind. It took some getting used to, I wasn't a fan at first. But it was also very trim, and more versatile because it could be bifolded or trifolded, and it certainly did a great job at holding in the liquid most importantly! It acutally seemed to fit pretty well in all three diapers.

FLIP Night Time Organic Cotton Insert

- Made with two layers of 100% Organic Cotton (trifolded = 6 layers)
- Measured aprox. 17.5" in length before washing, measured aprox. 16.5" in length after washing/prepping
- In an 'off the bum' test of how much it could hold, it held about 1/4 cup of water after around 3 washes, and after it was fully prepped about ever so close to a full 1cup of water
- Purchase at CCDD for $29.95 CAD for a package of two ($15 each ish)
The FLIP insert was my least favourite, but not because it didn't work amazingly! This thing can hold a ton of pee! If you are using pockets at night, especially something big like an AppleCheeks size 2 or with a toddler, try this one out for sure! I have only 1 lonely AC in my stash, the majority of my pockerts are tiny Fuzzibunz and this baby was just too huge for most of my pockets (this is by far the largest and bulkiest of the three inserts).

  1. My favorite insert has to be anything bamboo. Bamboo has great absorption.
